I worked variations in my head the whole way home:

Against the cold dusk, a gold light was burning.
Against the light cold, a gold dusk was burning.
Against the cold burn, a dusk gold was lighting.
Light the cold dusk against the burned gold.
Gold against light, the cold dusk was burning.

Cold-burning light against what has dusked gold.
